Frequently Asked Questions

How is Golden Hour Wellbeing different from other psychology clinics?

At Golden Hour Wellbeing, we create a uniquely warm and inclusive environment where every client feels valued and supported. Our approach is personalised to each individual's journey, recognising the importance of empathy and understanding in fostering genuine healing. We’re proud to offer animal-assisted therapy, where our friendly therapy dog Archie provides comfort and companionship as part of the therapeutic experience. Whether through traditional methods or a wagging tail, we’re here to guide you toward meaningful well-being at every step.

We focus on creating a calm, sensory-friendly experience to support your comfort and relaxation. Our space is thoughtfully designed with soft, warm lighting—no harsh or big lights—allowing you to feel at ease. Every detail, from gentle lighting to cosy furnishings, is tailored to reduce stress and enhance your therapeutic experience in a truly serene environment.

What can I expect from my first session at Golden Hour Wellbeing?

First sessions at any new clinic can be scary, at Golden Hour Wellbeing we aim to create a welcoming and calming space. Your first session will be a great opportunity for your therapist to get to know you, your history, your current concerns and therapy goals. This is also a great chance for you to ask any questions and ensure you feel therapy at Golden Hour Wellbeing is right for you, if not - no worries! We can discuss onward referrals and other treatment options together.

You can talk about as much or as little as you would like in your first session, you are welcome to bring in any notes/photos/memes/Spotify playlists to help us get to know you better.

All therapy sessions are 50 minutes long, to ensure that administration, notes, homework or general after therapy to-dos are able to be done in the final 10 minutes before the next booked session.

Do I need a referral to attend my first session?

No, although we recommend speaking to your doctor to determine if you are eligible for rebated Mental Health Care Sessions.

Am I eligible for Medicare Rebates for my psychology sessions?

Maybe! First, you need to see your doctor and obtain a Mental Health Care Plan. If your doctor determines are eligible for a plan, you will likely be approved for an initial 6 sessions and then a further 4 sessions (10 sessions in total in a calendar year). Please see here for information or discuss further with your doctor.

How much are sessions when I have a Mental Health Care Plan?

All clients are required to pay their full session fee upfront ($290). Once payment is complete, we will then process their Mental Health Care Plan rebate to be deposited into the client’s nominated account. A session rebate from Medicare is $141.85, meaning that once the rebate has been paid into the client’s account, they will be out of pocket $148.15 per session.

Do you offer Bulk-Billed sessions or concession discounts?

Unfortunately, due to being a small business, we do not provide Bulk-Billed or Concession discounts at this stage. However, we aim to keep our fees lower than the recommended $311 by The Australian Psychological Society and will be working towards providing concessional sessions in the future, watch this space!

What if I am allergic to dogs or don’t want a therapy dog in my session?

That’s okay! We understand that dogs are not for everyone and may not be right for your therapeutic journey. Please contact us to discuss particular session times/days when Archie will not be on-site.

Do you accept other third-party funding e.g., NDIS, DVA, WorkCover, or Insurance?

At this stage, we only accept clients under Medicare plans or private paying clients. However, we are always aiming to expand and will keep you updated on this!
